Ex-Ghana captain CK Akunnor says he will try to convince his former club Wolfsburg who have no immediate plans of building an academy in Ghana.

The Bundesliga side recently set up academies in China and Mexico where their sponsor Volkswagen Company has operations in those countries.

Akunnor was invited by the club and supervised a coaching clinic in Mexico.

He hopes Wolfsburg will consider an academy in Ghana to hone mercurial talents in the country.

“Currently it’s not in their plans to establish an academy here because this has something to do with the Volkswagen Company. They have it in Mexico and China but they don’t have a company here so it will take time for me to convince them,” the 41-year-old told Graphic Sports.

“It’s not going to be now because they have to see how it will go in Mexico and China and then they can think of Ghana. It is in the process.”
