Takoradi, May 11,GNA — The Western Regional branch of the Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) over the weekend organized a health walk in Takoradi, to remind Ghanaians about the threat posed by the deadly Ebola virus.
The Regional Manager of GRCS, Mr. Matthew Boateng, who initiated the walk, drew the attention of Ghanaians to the fact that the fight against the Ebola epidemic was not over, and called for absolute vigilance by all and sundry so that the country would not be caught unawares.
The theme for the walk was ‘No Ebola in Ghana,’ and it brought together school children, Red Cross volunteers, traders, teachers, doctors, nurses and other public servants, with support from the Swiss Red Cross.
The walk started around 0800 hours from the Takoradi Jubilee Park, through the Market Circle, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was followed by aerobics, dance and quiz competitions.
Mr. Boateng entreated Ghanaians to be on guard until the Ebola canker was totally eradicated.
He said the GRSC had embarked on sensitization programmes in some communities along Ghana/Cote D’Ivoire border, including, Elubo, Cocoa Town and Jawey Wharf in Jomoro District, as well as some refugee camps, like Krisan and Ampain Refugee Camps in the Ellembele District.
Mr. Boateng said as serious and deadly as the Ebola disease was, in view of the adverse effects it brought to the citizens of Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia, there was the need to be on guard at all times to prevent the country from being infested with the virus.
