Goal prophet: Eto’O told me I will score’ – Acquah on debut Sampdoria goal

Afriyie Acquah is living the excitement of opening his Sampdoria account after netting his side’s third goal in a 4-1 romp on the road at Emmanuel Agyemang Badu’s Udinese on Sunday in Serie A.

The 22 year old midfield strongman has exclusively explained to Allsports.com.gh why he ran all the way to the bench to hug and celebrate his strike with Cameroonian legend, Samuel Eto’O Fils who started the game but was substituted after 56 minutes at the Stadio Friuli.

“I was very happy that I scored because it’s been a really long time since I scored a goal and it’s also special because it is the first for Sampdoria,” Acquah said from his Italy base.

“Why I run to Eto’O is that he always tells me that I will score, he says I have to score like three or 4 goals this season and before yesterday’s match, I think he started saying it since Friday that I will score in this match,” Acquah explained.

“When we were going to the stadium yesterday, he told me that when I score, I should come to him and hug him, that’s why I went to celebrate with him,” he added.

The victory also pushed Sampdoria to the brink of qualification for next season’s UEFA Europa League, now in 6th spot on 54 points, just one behind Fiorentina who occupy the Italy’s last qualification spot.

Acquah says they will push to win all of their remaining three league games in their determination to land the ticket to European football next term.

“We are very serious about playing in Europe next season and we’ll work hard to win all our remaining matches but we’ll take it one match at a time. So all our focus is on the Lazio game this Saturday, we must win it first then we can deal with the rest,” Acquah told us.

After playing 3rd placed Lazio, Sampdoria also have games to come away to Empoli on May 24 before rounding up the 2014/15 season at home against Acquah’s immediate former club, Parma who have already been relegated to Serie B. Follow @thedonplato
