Doctors needed at the Yendi Hospital – Regent

Yendi (N/R), May 11, GNA – Kampakuyana Yakubu Abdulai Andani, Regent of Dagbon, has appealed to the Minister of Health to transfer some of the newly qualified doctors to the Yendi Municipal Hospital.

He said the Hospital, which is a referral facility, caters for patients from most districts within the eastern corridor and the lack of doctors at the facility is affecting health care delivery to the people.

He said the Hospital has only one resident doctor.
Kampakuyana Andani made the appeal when he briefed the media at the Gbewaa Palace over the weekend at Yendi to discuss the challenges facing the facility.

He said the Municipal Health Directorate also lacks critical staff such as midwives, nurses, and other health care providers- a situation which is not good for quality health care delivery.

He gave the assurance that accommodation would be provided for doctors posted to the Municipality

Kampakuyana Abdulai Andani called on the Municipal and District Assemblies along the eastern corridor to commit substantial portions of their funds in sponsoring qualified students to enroll at the Yendi College of Health Sciences, the Gushegu Midwifery School and other health institutions to train the requisite health personnel needed by the area.

He called on the National Health Insurance Authority to reimburse the Municipal Hospital to enable it to continue to operate effectively.

He appealed to government to upgrade the Hospital into a regional facility, adding that land has been provided for the purpose.
