Bolga-Naba Raymond Alafia Abilba
Kingmakers in the Bolgatanga Traditional Area have successfully installed Raymond Alafia Abilba, son of the late Martin Adongo Abilba – who passed away in September 2013 – as the new Bolga-Naba (chief).
Principal elders of five royal families – Apasenyelum, Agandaa, Akumbosco, Atuliba-Tia and Adogma-Baa – out of the seven in the Traditional Area, endorsed the new Bolga-Naba, Naba Raymond Alafia Abilba IV.
The colourful event was attended by divisional and sub-divisional chiefs of the area as well as some paramount chiefs from the Upper West and Northern Regions. The occasion was graced by a large crowd amid drumming and dancing. There was heavy security presence at the palace and along all the ceremonial streets.
There was also a seven-member delegation from the Ashanti Kingdom, led by Otumfuo’s Nsumankwa Hene, Nana Baffour Asabere Kogyawoasu Ababio III. The delegation was accompanied by the Frafra Chief of Kumasi, Naba Musah Akanbonga.
It did not come as a surprise to many when the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs and all paramount chiefs in the region boycotted the installation of the new Bolga-Naba. The President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, Naba Sigri Bewong, was clearly heard in an interview with Citi FM – an Accra-based radio station – that the House had no hand in the installation of any chief for the Bolgatanga Traditional Area.
The road to the enskinment of Naba Raymond Abilba IV had been characterized by some disputes between followers of the five royal families on one side, and the two – Agawure and Agbere – on the other. In reaction to this, the Upper East House of Chiefs had to form a mediation committee to find a lasting solution to the dispute.
DAILY GUIDE has gathered that the mediation committee, headed by the President of the Regional House of Chiefs, did not finish its work when the principal elders of the five families announced a date for the installation of then Regent Raymond Alafia Abilba as the new Bolga-Naba.
Furthermore, the committee was still in place when Naba Joseph Rodricks Apakre Nyaaba was announced to have been enskinned as the new paramount chief of the Bolgatanga Traditional Area by the Nayeri, Naa Bohagu Mahamin Abdulai Sheriga, on May 6, 2015.
At the time of filing this report, there had not been any ceremony to outdoor Naba Joseph Rodricks Apakre Nyaaba in Bolgatanga as the new paramount chief.
