Nana Congratulates Togolese President

The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has extended worm congratulations to the newly elected Togolese President, Faure Gnassingbรƒยฉ, on his re-election.

Nana Addo said the decisive nature of his victory, which had subsequently been confirmed by the Constitutional Court of Togo, reinforces the hopes and beliefs of the Togolese people that the path of democracy is the surest way of achieving development, prosperity and progress for their country.

‘I wish President Faure Gnassingbe well, and respectfully urge him to strengthen further the ties that exist between our two nations, as well as use his high office to hasten the process of regional integration,’ he said in a statement.

Presidentย  Faure Gnassingbรƒยฉ ย was seeking a third term and was opposed by four other candidates, including the main opposition leader, Jean-Pierre Fabre ย of the National Alliance for Change.

Provisional results announced by the National Independent Election Commission (CENI) declared Gnassingbรƒยฉ the winner with about 59% of the valid votes cast, whilst Fabre received 35%.

On May 3 the Constitutional Court validated the official results produced by CENI and proclaimed Gnassingbรƒยฉ president for the next five years. He was subsequently sworn in on May 4, 2015.
