Comedian David Oscar believes the current outrage over the ongoing power crisis is a bit exaggerated.
Describing it as an “Accra pandemic” and not a “national disaster,” the comedian does not understand why people are becoming excessively emotional about the subject.
On Joy FM’s Ghana Connect programme, Friday, Oscar said he had traveled to some regions within the past month and can say on authority that the power outage which has now been christened in Ghana, dumsor, is not as severe in other regions as it is in Accra.
He mentioned Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, Koforidua in the Eastern Region, Volta Region and Cape Coast in the Central Region as some of the places he visited where the situation was not as bad as it is being made to seem.
The comedian had already courted anger amongst some of his colleagues for criticizing a planned procession by celebrities against the power crisis.
The procession dubbed the ‘dumsormuststop’ vigil was triggered by a post on twitter by actress Yvonne Nelson.
She has had enough of the power crisis and took her frustration to public with a #dumsormuststop .
Whether by design or coincidence, rapper Sarkodie also released a track titled the masses in which he chided government for what he says is the high cost of living in the country, worsened by a power crisis.
He would later join forces with Yvonne Nelson, comedian Derrick Kobina Bonney (DKB), actress Lydia Forson and a host of others, who have vowed to be part of the dumsor vigil.
David Oscar said it would be hypocritical for him to be part of the vigil, a comment some of the celebrities found insulting.
Poet Nana Asaase, who was on Ghana Connect, said Oscar was sounding like the “PRO of the Power Ministry”.
While, he believed the comedian had every right to disagree with their planned procession, he said the manner in which he communicated his disagreement was condescending.
Cartel Big J, who is a member of what used to be Praye group did not understand why celebrities would be attacked and tagged as supporting the opposition party for deciding to join the dumsor vigil.
He said dumsor has such a deleterious effect on everything in the country. He said school children have been affected while couples’ relationships have been affected as well.
People cannot even make love anymore because when you touch her, she will say there is heat, he stated.
Actress Ama K Abebresse, was looking forward to the May 16 vigil which she said should draw the attention of government to the debilitating effect of dumsor on Ghanaians.
