Tariqe Fosu made Reading history



English-born Ghanaian youth international Tariqe Fosu the eleventh Academy player to make his debut this season, coming on to great effect in our 3-0 win against Derby.

The 19-year-old winger was introduced in the first half for Jack Stacey, who was making his first start in a Reading shirt, and both youngsters played very well.

Fosu joined Black Stars striker Kwesi Appiah who was playing his last game and scored for Reading on the pitch and extremely delighted Reading boss with his impressive runs on the flanks.

Eleven debutants in one season represents an incredible achievement for our Academy – the previous best was four in one season, and the fruits of the work put in by Eamonn Dolan, Nick Hammond, Martin Kuhl et al over many years are really coming to the fore.

It was a great weekend for our youth setup – the under 18s defeated Liverpool 3-0 on Saturday, and the Under 21s made it seven wins in a row by beating Aston Villa 1-0 on Friday night, to close in on promotion to the top division, having won the first ever Premier League U21s cup last season.
