Ghana and Esperance versatile defender, Afful Harrison is optimistic of his side winning over Ghanaian giant, Hearts of Oak in their Confederation cup game.
The meeting of the two giant in CAF Inter club championship will be a repeat of the 2000 CAF Champions league finals when the Phobians beat the Tunis based club on a 5-2 aggregate to annex their first continental silverware.
The former Asante Kotoko defender, Afful Harrison who now plies his trade for the Tunis based club is aware of the history between Esperance and Hearts of Oak but is sure of a win against his former club
‘History is always history and we are aware of what happened in 2000 but that is past and gone and we are a new generation,’ Afful said.
‘We are more determined and willing to win trophies for the club and we have the character and ready to meet any team.
‘I’m very happy to be coming back to Ghana to play against Hearts, it will be a good game and I know we can carry the day and make it to the next stage of the competition.
‘It is just unfortunate we couldn’t progress to the group stage of the Champions league but this is equally an important competition and we will do our best to win it,’ he added.
Esperance will host the Phobians in the first leg of the next round of the Confederation cup on the 17th May, 2015.
