Citi News can confirm that the police have scheduled a meeting with organizers of the “Dumsor must stop” demonstration on Thursday.
The organizers include actresses Yvonne Nelson and Lydia Forson, comedian DKB and rapper Sarkodie.
A letter of notification authored by the lawyers of the celebrities to the police and sighted by Citi News indicated that the group intends to embark on a vigil on May 16, 2015 at the University of Ghana.
The event is expected to be held at the stadium grounds of the University of Ghana from 4pm to 6:00pm.
The meeting with the police was originally scheduled for today but it had to be postponed at the instance of the organizers.
The recent power challenges have compelled some celebrities to vent their spleen on social media, a situation which has provoked scathing remarks from some loyalists of government.
Per the Public Order Act, 1994, any group seeking to organise a public event must notify the police of their intentions.
The police have on some occasions, secured a court order to prevent certain events from taking place.
A letter, they wrote to the Police seeking clearance and protection for the event, stated that the vigil will be in the “form of a peaceful procession with lit candles, touches, lanterns and bobo.”
Ghana has been battling with inconsistent power supply in the country following three years of erratic power generation.
