Bawumia Electrifies Ajumako

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) vice presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, over the weekend electrified the University of Education Winneba, Ajumako campus, when he went there to witness the handing over ceremony of Tertiary Students Confederacy of the NPP (TESCON).

As at 2pm the assembly hall had been filled to capacity as students were waiting eagerly for the arrival of Dr Bawumia and his entourage, who had earlier stormed the town for the final funeral rites of the father of the managing director of Citi FM โ€“ an Accra-based radio station โ€“ Samuel Atta Mensah.

The hall was shaken to its foundation immediately Dr Bawumia arrived at the campus at about 3pm for the ceremony, as the students were chanting NPP songs amidst drumming and dancing.

Addressing the students, Dr Bawumia pointed out that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government had between 2009 and 2014 collected GHยข62 billion as tax revenue.

He reiterated that from the year Ghana attained independence to 2008 the total debt was GHยข9.5 billion as against the current GHยข76 billion within six years under the NDC government โ€“ an increase of 700%.

He assured the students of an NPP government’s commitment to pay utility bills at campuses while teacher trainees’ allowances, cancelled by the NDC government, would be restored.

Dr Bawumia urged Ghanaian students to work hard to bring back the NPP into power to properly manage the economy.

‘It baffles me when people ask where the NPP would get money to implement such policies. Remember, the NPP government, under HIPC and oil-free economy, was able to introduce many social interventions such as capitation grant, MASLOC, free maternal health care, national health insurance scheme, school feeding, among others,’ he added.

The constituency chairman of Ajumako-Enyan-Essaim (AEE), George Appiadu-Mensah, promised the party’s commitment to provide all the available resources to TESCON to work hard to capture the seat in 2016.

The executives being sworn into office.
The newly elected TESCON President, Agyei Mohamed, indicated that the NNP has no reason to lose the 2016 elections and that it was incumbent on TESCON members to do their best to help the party to wrestle power from the incompetent NDC government.

‘TESCON members do not believe in court and that we are ready to meet our colleagues from the other side squarely at all levels of politics so we shall continue to fight, push and work tirelessly,’ he assured.

The outgoing President, Patrick Ntiamoah, noted that the recent infamous and murderous policy formulated by the government to impose the payment of utility bills on students has the potency to drop students whose parents/guardians are not financially sound out of school.
