Angry Jirapa residents lynch two suspected robbers

Police in the Jirapa District of the Upper West Region are investigating a mob attack on two suspected armed robbers leading to their death.

The two alleged criminals were set on fire after they were beaten to a pulp by the angry Jirapa residents on Sunday.

The instant justice on the two persons, according to Upper West Region Correspondent, Rafiq Salam, was fuelled by a perception that the suspects have been the ones terrorising the community with repeated armed robbery attacks.

Jirapa District Police Commander ASP Daniel Nartey told Joy News although the youth in the area have become overly violent in recent times, the police are doing their best to contain the situation.

He said his outfit is proceeding cautiously since the youth have threatened to burn down the police station if they attempt to arrest anyone in connection with the lynching.

No arrests have been made in connection with the Sunday’s mob attack.

Meanwhile, Rafiq reports that the Jirapa residents have declared war on armed robbers and criminals in the area.
