Namibia’s Shitembi charges AshGold for glory as he bids emotional farewell

Namibian import Petrus Shitembe emotionally bid farewell to his colleagues at Ghana Premier League side AshGold as he returns to his parent club down south.

The attacking midfielder held back tears as he ended his loan stint with the Miners on Thursday as his seven month loan comes to an end.

AshGold, top of the pile after the first round, will be without Shitembe after the player’s parent club, Amazulu, recalled him.

Shitembi, 22, scored twice in the league for the club and emotionally thanked his colleagues, the Ghanaian football family and the management of Ashgold for his stay in Ghana.

“You are a bunch of talented guys with a lot of prospects ahead of you guys. If I have to close my eyes I still see many of you going places in your careers,” the player, who has featured for all Namibia’s national teams from youth to senior level, wrote.

“The amount of respect I have for you, the credit I draw from watching you is more than a joy. You were more than a friend to me; you were like brothers and a family to me. It’s been an absolute pleasure since the time I got to know you”, the departing Shitembe said.

“All the support I have gotten from you, it’s been amazing. If it was up to me I would have loved to see the season through but circumstances have led to me going back. I have to do that to honour my contract, but I will forever be grateful.

“You took me in and gave me the chance to actually express myself in whatever I have to do. The technical team has done so much for me that I can’t even begin to describe it. I will forever be thankful for you and wish to see you in the future”, Petrus said.

He concluded by tasking his colleagues to win the league for the first time since 1995 season.

“I will like to come back at the end of the season to see you guys lifting the cup and with that it only comes to hard work.

“It will require a lot of cooperation from you guys, dedicate yourself and you will come across unforeseen circumstances.

“I will like to see more of the individual awards at the end of the season too. If that happens, I will be the happiest of people around. Thank you”, he finished.

Shitembi played in his last game for Ashgold in their 1-1 draw against Hearts of Oak on Wednesday at the Len Clay Sports Stadium.
