Constable Samuel Asamoah, a police officer stationed at the Kasoa Police Station, has been arrested together with a civilian for alleged attempted robbery.
Asamoah was apprehended together with one Danso Ofori for attempting to rob a Nigerian of an amount of GH¢2,000.
The third suspect, who is believed to be a military officer, is reportedly at large.
The two are currently in police custody assisting in investigations.
Confirming the arrest to DAILY GUIDE, ASP Effia Tengey said Constable Asamoah was nearly lynched.
She disclosed that police received information that a police officer, a military man and a civilian were being attacked for attempting to rob a Nigerian on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 around 12pm.
The Weija police immediately got to the scene and apprehended the two but the military man had bolted.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the three, who were occupying a taxi, followed the victim, who had gone to a bank to cash the money, from Kasoa in the Central Region to Mallam.
When the victim realised that he was being followed, he also hired a taxi and left but the suspects followed him.
ASP Tengey said they attempted to cross the victim’s taxi but the driver (victim’s) resisted until they got to a vantage point and raised an alarm.
Residents came to the rescue of the victim and the taxi driver and attempted to lynch the criminals.
They are in custody assisting in investigations while efforts are being made to apprehend the military man.
