Half-Assini Hospital re-roofing suspended

Half Assini, May 1, GNA – The authorities of the Half-Assini Government Hospital have expressed disappointment over the re-roofing of the facility which has been suspended as the rain season approaches.

The roofs of the only referral medical facility in the district leaks very seriously during the rainy season.

Mr. Paul A. Agyakwa, Administrator of the hospital, made this known to the Ghana News Agency at Half-Assini.

He said work should have started in January this year with the signing of an agreement to that effect, after it failed to take off in June last year, but Eni Foundation, funding the project has suspended it.

The Foundation, an oil company operating in the Jubilee Field is funding the project under its Co-operate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Mr. Agyakwa said the contractor who was on site had to leave due to the turn of event, thus dashing management’s hope of going to work under decent conditions in this rain season.

He said the facility constructed in 1974 has not seen any renovation, thus requiring the re-roofing, and urged the Eni Foudation to assign reasons for the suspension of work to the Hospital Management.

According to the Administrator, the area was noted for heavy downpours during the raining season, and wondered how the situation would be at the hospital if the rain fell as usual this season under the development.

He therefore appealed to the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum to intervene for immediate commencement of the work at the facility.

Eni Foundation could not be reached by GNA for its comments.
