Controversial Ghanaian rapper Kwaw Kese has expressed gratitude to stakeholders who through their efforts have seen several remand prisoners gain their freedom.
So far, 41 prisoners on remand at the Nsawam and the Koforidua prisons have been released after the Chief Justice and judges moved into action following a Joy News’ documentary “Locked and Forgotten” by Seth Kwame Boateng.
The shocking documentary exposed the remand crisis in the country’s prisons. 23 and 18 remand prisoners were released from the Nsawam and Koforidua prisons respectively.
Kwaw Kese, who had a stint in the Kumasi Central prisons after he was arrested in Kumasi on Saturday, November 22 for smoking cannabis, says the move to free the prisoners is in the right direction.
A statement by Kwaw Kese posted on facebook said “It is certainly in the right direction since a lot of them have been waiting for years to go to trial or simply do not deserve to be there.”
Born Emmanuel Botchway, the rapper added that, “I will also want to encourage the above stated Institutions to do more to help decongest Ghana prisons since a lot of talent are being put to waste.”
The man who has tagged himself as the King of the Prisons disclosed that he is coming up with various projects which are geared towards “developing the various prisons.”

My People all over the prisons of Ghana and I wish to thank the Government, the Judicial Service, DFID and all Stake Holders for the release of more remand prisoners.
It is certainly in the right direction since a lot of them have been waiting in years to go to trial or simply do not deserve to be there.
I will also want to encourage the above stated Institutions to do more to help decongest the Ghana prisons since a lot of talent are being put to waste.
My team and I are coming up with various projects geared at developing the various prisons.
We also thank the people of Ghana for showing concern since nobody knows when that day will come for him or her to be there.Being convicted or jailed is something one cannot easily forget.
