Head coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, Herbert Addo has described his side’s performance against Inter Allies as a ‘Father Christmas’ display of football after their 2-1 defeat.
Speaking to the media is a post match interview, Herbert Addo said, ‘I feel very bad not that we lost but the way we lost, we were playing…; look at the first goal, total confusion between our goalkeeper and the central defender, we gave him a gift goal, we came back and I think it is a very fantastic game, both teams played almost the same system and everybody was determined but in the end Inter Allies were hungrier and we allowed the substitute[Goeckel Ahottor] to score the goal and which should never had happened because as soon as he came in somebody was given an instruction to make sure he doesn’t shoot in and around the 18 yard, he should be close down and yet he got the ball and everybody went back and it is another Christmas present we gave him because he can shot and we gave him space and time’.
The 62 year old trainer added that his side’s lost was as a result of lack of concentration -‘After playing 90 minutes if you are not determined and hungrier, you will lose concentration especially when you are getting tired but I didn’t see my defenders act tired because they kept the strikers at bay…’
Herbert Addo also defended his tactical decision in pushing Ruben Gnagne into central midfield instead of his usual central defense.
”I had to push him there because Inter Allies had three people in the central midfield and very strong characters and I also had my defensive midfielder[Leonard Tawiah], he was injured so there was nobody who has that power so I taught I used Ruben and last week we used him at the same position and he was fantastic, this week those around him were not the same as those around him last week so the play was not as good as last week so that was one of the reasons why I pushed him there in order to strengthen the midfield and in the first half nobody was going and nobody was coming,’ he noted.
