The 2014 flagbearer candidate of the NPP, Francis Addai Nimo has called on the President of the ruling NDC to throw in more attention to the needs of children with special attention.
Francis Addai Nimo, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashanti Mampong constituency in the Ashanti Region said in the developed countries children with disability are properly cared for because society regard them as partners of nation building.
According to him, even though they are intellectually challenged, they stand the equal chances of playing significant roles therefore much attention is needed to boost their momentum.
The NPP MP said this when he celebrated his Golden Jubilee (50th birthday) with the Dzorwulu Special School in Accra.
He said he deliberately decided to celebrate his birthday in this grand style so that he can interact with these children inorder to inspire them to aspire higher in the corridors of life.
Mr. Addai Nimo, together with his wife advised the children to take their academic studies more serious and must adhere to the advices of their teachers.
The Headmistress of Dzowulu Special School, Mrs. Veronica Sackey, commended the MP for embarking on such exercise to put smiles on the faces of the children.
According to her, the kind gesture will break the chains of discrimination and stigmatization people have about physical and intellectually challenged persons in the society.
She said the stigma continuous to remain a challenge as many fear to come into close contact with these children or shake their hands when they visit the school.
The Headmistress has commended the government for the support however, more supports are needed considering the growth of the school.
