Ogun Declares Today Public Holiday For PVC Collection

PVCsAhead of the presidential and National Assembly elections tomorrow, the Ogun State Government has declared Friday (today), public holiday, as part of measures to enable workers and others collect their Permanent Voter Cards.

The Secretary to the State Government, Taiwo Adeoluwa, made this known on Thursday in a statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta.

“In order to ensure that all eligible voters in the State collect their Permanent Voters Card to enable them exercise their civic responsibility in the forthcoming elections, the Ogun State Government has declared Friday, 27 March, 2015 as work free”, the statement said.

Adeoluwa noted that the decision was in line with the confirmation by Independent National Electoral Commission that they have received another batch of the PVCs.

“This decision follows information that the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state has received another batch of PVC”, he said.

“We appeal to all eligible voters in the State to take advantage of the holiday to obtain their PVCs and carry out their civic duty by voting for candidates of their choice. Government also enjoins all stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully and eschew all forms of violence and tension during and after the elections.

“We further advise our people to abide by all electoral guidelines and avoid wearing attires and emblems of political parties to the polling stations”.
