YFM‘s popular disk jockey Joel Orleans is reported to have turned down a mouth-watering poaching offer from the rebranded Live FM.
Live 91.9 FM has been taken over by media company, Excellence In Broadcasting (EIB), operators of Starr FM, and is reported to have poached some of the big names at YFM including Ms Naa and Sammy Forson.
Joel, known for his funky presenting style and huge youth following, is however reported to have decided to stick to YFM and grow with the brand when he was approached with a jaw-dropping offer to switch camp to Live FM.
According to his PR Manager, Ms Precious Bonsu, Joel’s brand is more suitable for YFM and so he would therefore want to remain loyal to the listeners who have helped him build his brand to a level that has become attractive to other stations.
Ms Bonsu said Joel, the host of the Y Campus Express (YCE) show, is more than happy with his current employer and does not plan to leave anytime soon.
Joel hosts the YCE show from 2pm – 5pm every Saturday and the Myd Morning show weekdays 9:30am to 12:00 noon on Y107.9FM.
YFM Beefs Up
Sources close to the station have said it is beefing up its youth programming to further boost its appeal among the urban youth in Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi.
According to the sources, the radio station, which has a rotation plan in three youth-centred regions in Ghana, is bringing youth icon Joel to join Nockus on the popular “Drive Time” programme.
Music star and award winner Trigmatic, Brownberry and Akosua Hanson of Citi FM fame are among the new faces to add to an A-list of fresh voices and faces on the “yearn for more” station.
Lady Sam’s Words of Wisdom, Y-ired and Celebrity Radio, our source disclosed, complete a new line-up expected to cement the stations appeal as the number one youth brand.
