New film initiative established to promote development in Ghana

A film initiative has been instituted to help create a viable platform for filmmakers to adequately showcase their works on.

The initiative, dubbed the Short/Animation Film for Development, is the brainchild of the Festival of Films Africa (F.O.FA) and is in collaboration with the Ghana Film and Television Arts (GAFTA) and Women in Per4orming Arts (W.I.P.A).

The event, according to organizers, will seek to create a platform for young filmmakers to showcase creative talents in short and animation films that are focused on development.

The 3-day event is slated for May 29 to May 31. It will feature a 2-day workshop – on the 29th and 30th – and an awards night May 31.

“This initiative will promote artistic creativity, encouraging young filmmakers and giving them opportunities to interact with international filmmakers in workshops and get rewarded in the final contest to be held on the 31stMay 2015,” organizers said in a statement.

Entries for the event were opened from March 2, 2015 with the thematic areas of submission on health, education, local governance/environment, gender, culture/social development and children/youth empowerment.

Entries will close on April 30th 2015, the statement said.

Films collected will enjoy periodic screening on a national TV and discussed by panel of professional filmmakers in the country.

Organizers revealed that “Films selected are to address issues of national development and they will be submitted to appropriate quarters for tackling issues concerned.”
