Airtel MD Mentors Female Engineers

The Managing Director of Airtel Ghana, Lucy Quist, who is the first Ghanaian female MD of a telecommunication company in Ghana, has organized a mentoring session for 15 of the top female engineering students from three of the nation’s premier universities and some female staff of Ericsson Ghana.

The trailblazer in the telecoms industry shared her inspiring story as an engineer with the ladies.

The students, who were drawn from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Ghana and the Ghana Technology University, listened attentively to her motivating story.

Ms Quist asked them to ignore the stereotype about women and challenge the status quo.

‘You should be willing to dream, break boundaries and compete globally,’ she said.

She further encouraged the young ladies to look beyond their gender and identify their unique talents to grow their potential.

Estelle Akofio Sowah, Country Director for Google Ghana, who was also guest speaker at the event, shared her life story and encouraged the university students in engineering to work hard to achieve their goals.

This year’s theme for the International Women’s Day is ‘Equality for women is progress for all.’
