NEWS-ONE, the social and entertainment news segment of DAILY GUIDE, chalked yet another success over the weekend when its Editor-In- Charge, Halifax Ansah-Addo, emerged the Entertainment Journalist/Writer of the year at the GN Bank Awards, formerly called People’s Choice Awards.

Ebenezer Donkor of www.nydjlive.com was announced as first runner up for the Entertainment Journalist/Writer category which was keenly contested by 10 finalists. The criterion for determining the winners was public voting.

‘The GN Bank Awards is a novelty and a positive precedent that directly supports and brings out the best in Ghana’s creative arts sector. It breeds competition among entertainment and arts players and makes each of us bring out the very best within us. How else can you support a sector more than motivating its players to bring out the best in them?

‘Secondly, we must congratulate the organisers and sponsors because it puts physical cash directly into the pockets of Ghanaians and GH¢5,000 for each winner is no joke. It opens business and  investment opportunities which I think it fits into the Groupe Nduom values,’ Ansah-Addo explained. He also expressed gratitude to the persons who campaigned and voted for him.

In all there were 15 categories, with each having 10 nominees who cut across film makers, sports personalities, media practitioners, musicians, comedians and persons with rare talents.

Celebrated Ghanaian radio broadcaster Kwabena Anokye Adisi (Bola Ray) was announced as the winner of the ultimate award, The Favourite Celebrity 2015. He also won in the Male Radio Personality category, making him the only celebrity with two awards on the night.

Male Sports Personality Of The Year was won by Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, who was not present but had his award picked for him by his brother Baffour Gyan and their Business Manager Sammy Anim Addo.

Popular dancehall musician Shatta Wale also won the Male Musician Of The Year.

Other winners on the night included Juliet Ibrahim (Female Actor Of The Year), Gifty Osei (Female Musician Of The Year), James Gardiner (Male Actor Of The Year), Nana Yaa Brefo (Female TV Presenter Of The Year), Kojo Frempong (Male TV Presenter Of The Year), Akumaa Mama Zimbi (Female Radio Presenter Of The Year), Baba Spirit (Comedian Of The Year) and Vibrant Faya whose song, ‘Mampi’, won Song Of The Year.

Life Time Achievement Award’s recipient was David Kotei ‘D.K.’ Poison, the first Ghanaian to win a world boxing title, whilst MTN Ghana received the GN Bank Corporate Award. The GN Bank Corporate Award is to recognise entities which have contributed tremendously to the development of the Arts and Entertainment Industry over the years.

Each winner took home a prize which sums up to GH¢5,000 including a cash amount of GH¢3,500.

It was organised by Spyder Lee Entertainmentand sponsored by GN Bank.
