Late call: Assifuah out, Boakye Yiadom in for Black Stars

Italy based Richmond Boakye Yiadom has earned a late call to join the Black Stars in Paris ahead of the two international friendlies coming up against fellow West African, Senegal on March 28 and Mali on 31st March, both in France.

Sources close to the player have told that Yiadom received the call-up late Monday and is meeting authorities of his Serie A side, Atalanta to get the clearance to fly to the French capital where the Ghana national team are gathering later today to begin camping.

Boakye has earned the call to replace the injured Swiss based striker, Ebenezer Assifuah but most importantly step into the big shoes vacated by captain Asamoah Gyan who was also left out of the initial 22-man squad with injury.

The 22 year old Atalanta striker earns his first call-up to the Black Stars in more than a year, also the chance for a first international cap under new Ghana coach, Avram Grant.

‘Gyan is not fully fit and so we decided to give opportunities to other players to test their mettle during the international friendlies,’ Coach Grant explained earlier on Gyan’s unavailability.
