All Africa Games: Isaac Honny confident of Black Meteors’ qualification

Defender Isaac Honny maintains a strong belief that Ghana can overturn a first leg defeat in Mozambique to make this year’s All Africa Games.

The national U-23 side lost 0-1 in Maputo on Saturday, Kojo Poku’s own goal with seven minutes to go proving decisive for the hosts at the Estádio do Zimpeto.

It means that All Africa Games defending football gold medallists, Ghana must now win by two clear goals in the return leg in Accra to qualify for a defence of the title.

But Thailand based Isaac Honny who played all 90 minutes in Maputo insists the Black Meteors will be triumphant come end of the two-legged tie.

“We are sorry for the loss in yesterday’s match, God knows why it happened that way but we assure Ghanaians we will win and qualify at all cost in the second leg. It was a good game though, still never say never,” Honny posted on his Facebook wall on Sunday.

Honny, a player of Thailand Premier League hotshots, Bec Tero Sasana (Avram Grant’s immediate past club) but currently on loan at Air Force Central United, is still reveling in the opportunity to finally get game time in Ghanaian national team colours and is keen to help the Meteors qualify to assure himself of further international duty at the 2015 All Africa Games scheduled for Congo Brazzaville within 6 months hence.

“It was very nice experience playing for my country, it was my dream to be part of it and now it has come to reality so I’m very happy to be part of the team,” Honny told exclusively.

“We did well but we were unlucky but hopefully we will win and qualify in the second leg. We will bring victory to Ghana, its only victory we need,” Isaac Honny added. Follow @thedonplato
