Police Council orders disciplinary action against Timbillah, others

The Police Council has directed that disciplinary action be taken against COP Patrick Timbillah and all other officers indicted by the Special Task Force investigating the police recruitment fraud.

This is one of four actions ordered by the Amissah Arthur-led Council after they considered the report on the investigations into the recent fraud case.

COP Timbillah is one of three officers said to have been indicted in the recruitment fraud case which has sent the nation talking for several weeks.

The officers were believed to have taken whopping sums of money from unsuspecting citizens with the promise of giving them non-existent vacancies within the police service.

Over 200 of such victims thronged the various police training institutions across the regions with forged documents said to have been signed by Timbillah.

They were left shocked when it became apparent they had been defrauded.

A special taskforce was constituted to investigate the scam and they have presented a report to the Police Council.

After thorough consideration of the report the Council among other things has directed that;

“All Police Officers investigated in the fraud case should remain on interdiction.

“That the case docket should be processed and same forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office against them.

“That the police administration should take measures to sensitize and continue to educate the public on police recruitment processes so as to avoid re-occurrence of this incident,” a statement signed by Superintendent Cephas Arthur said.

The Council further stated that the internal disciplinary action is without prejudice to any criminal prosecutions that may be directed by the Attorney General’s Office against them.
