Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi has brokered a peace deal between two Kenyan rival groups threatening football activities in the West African country, GHANAsoccernet.com can reveal.

The Ghanaian FA leader has been in Kenya since Saturday to mediate in the current football crisis.

Nyantakyi, appointed by world governing body FIFA, due to his clout and pedigree led the process which managed a truce between the two bodies on Monday after a meeting involving the Kenya Football Federation (FKF) and Kenyan Premier League (KPL) officials.

Football clubs have been in crisis after the two groups proposed rival Premier Leagues with conflicting competitions.

At present, Kenya Premier League (KPL) has 16 teams, and has resisted expansion plans to 18 teams put forward by the national organizing body, Football Kenya Football (FKF).

With both groups organizing separate fixtures involving the same teams, fans feared teams may be forced to choose either League due to competing games which has forced FIFA to appoint Nyantakyi to help solve the problem.

Nyantakyi again demonstrated his mediation prowess alongside development officer Ashford Mamelodi, and FIFA’s head of Member Associations Primo Carvaro as they  resolved the impasse which now paves way for the smooth running of football activities.

This is not the first time that Kenyan football has faced chaotic rivalries in its administration.

In 2005-2006, protracted infighting between football officials led to two parallel leagues.

It took the intervention of the government to disband the national federation to end the crisis.

Nyantayki is seen as one of the rising football administrators in the world and the latest FIFA assignment will certainly boost his growing international profile.
