One over the rivals: Elvis Manu’s Feyenoord beat PSV in Eredivisie


Elvis Manu ws once again in the tick of affairs for Feyenoord who defeated Eredivisie rivals, PSV 2-1 on Sunday afternoon to keep their European qualifications very alive.

Manu started and lasted all game long for Feyenoord who stood up to inflict only a 4th league defeat on runaway leaders PSV Eindhoven.

Manu’s side scored twice within four minutes halfway through the second half at the Feyenoord Stadium in Rotterdam and it proved decisive even after another Dutch born player with Ghanaian roots, Memphis Depay pulled a goal back for PSV five minutes after Feyenoord’s second.

The victory helped Feyenoord restore their four-point cushion over 4th placed AZ Alkmaar who beat Cambuur in their match day 28 tie back on Saturday. Feyenoord with 54 points occupy third and the last and only automatic UEFA Europa League qualifying slot available from the Dutch league to next season’s European campaigns.

Despite the PSV still maintain a good advantage to be crowned champions and with it Eredivisie’s sole automatic UEFA Champions’ League spot for next season as their haul of 70 points puts them well ahead of secodn spot, Ajax Amsterdam who took full advantage with a 1-0 victory over Ado Den Haag.

21 year old Elvis Manu has scored 4 goals in 20 league games (11 starts) for Feyenoord this season on his return from a hugely successful loan spell at Cambuur in the second half of the 2013/14 season. Follow @thedonplato
