GPL outcome: AshGold extend lead at the top

Ashanti Gold took advantage of Aduana Stars slip on Saturday to extend their three-point lead at the summit of the First Capital Plus Bank premier league to six.

Coming from a 1 – 0 defeat to second place Aduana Stars on Match week ten, the alacrity with which the Miners began the game showed their intent to correct the wrongs two weeks ago.

Hasaacas who started the season on a strong note went into the game with the hope of moving from their current 9th position into the top four as they lie just two points behind fourth placed Heart of Lions.

But they were undone by an own goal from Daniel Mpraim on the 63rd minute. Ashanti Gold dominated proceedings and were unlucky on numerous occasions when they had chances to put the game to rest.

Maybe they were boosted by Aduana’s defeat to West Africa Football Academy(WAFA) on Saturday, and gave their all in the game to secure the result. Despite dominating the first half of the game, it was all square after 45 minutes.

With frustration setting in for Hayford’s boys and Hasaacas growing more confident in the game, the referee had a difficult afternoon having the game under control. Challenges were flying high when the tempo of the match was raised, but he stamped his authority and took swift decisions.

With only a goal separating the two sides, Hasaacas were the more purposeful team going forward though they could not make their dominance in the final third of the pitch count, and succumbed to spirited AshGold, who have extended their lead at the summit of the First Capital Plus Bank premier league.
