Nigeria-police-logo-360x225The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested four suspected persons over the murder of former Deputy Speaker of the state, Mr. Okon Uwah.

Uwah was killed on Wednesday March 18, when he went for a political meeting in Ward Three of Ukanafun Local Government Area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gabriel Achong, said this during a press conference in his office in Uyo on Saturday.

According to Mr Achong, immediately after the incident, police operatives led by a senior police officer, mobilised to the scene of the crime, which led to the arrest of the perpetrators.

“Consequently, our coordinated investigation into the case has led to the arrest of four suspects who are helping the police in the investigation.

“The findings of this investigation will be made public as anyone culpable will be prosecuted no matter his or her position in the society”, Achong said.

The police boss warned politicians to avoid the use of abusive, inflammatory and inciting statements that could heat up the polity.

He warned that the command would not hesitate to deal decisively with any disgruntled person or group of persons that may wish to disturb the peace of the people, especially with the presidential election less than a week away.

He also urged parents and guardians to monitor their children and wards to avoid being used by politicians to foment trouble in the state.
