Jang Urges Jega To Conduct Credible Elections

JONAH-JANGGov. Jonah Jang of Plateau has advised Prof Attahiru Jega, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, to conduct credible general polls.

Jang gave the advice in Jos on Friday during a Town Hall Meeting organised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to win the confidence of prospective voters in the forthcoming elections.

The governor applauded Jega for conducting credible elections in 2011, but said that the 2015 elections were different.

He said Jega’s integrity as an unbiased umpire would further be proved in the general elections slated for March 28 and April 11.

According to him, it has been observed that the card reader contains 600 megabytes of data but that only four megabytes were deployed during the mock elections conducted by INEC.

He said this made the true capacity of the machines suspect and advised that if they had challenges working optimally, Jega should not insist on using them.

Jang, PDP’s senatorial candidate for Plateau North, promised to give the people “interactive representation”, if elected.

“There will be regular town hall meetings when I am elected into the Senate. We will open a suggestion box to entertain suggestions and advice from the senatorial zone”, he said.

He advised those who yet to collect their Permanent Voter Cards to do so in order to vote leaders of their choice.

“I heard that another batch of PVCs including my own have come, those of you who are yet to collect theirs should go and collect”, he added.

PDP governorship candidate for Plateau, Sen. Gyang Pwajok, said Plateau would have a very strong representative at the National Assembly with the caliber of Jang as Senator.

Pwajok said that PDP candidates contesting to represent the state at the National Assembly were experienced personalities that know Nigeria in and out.

“A set of first eleven on the PDP ticket are going to the National Assembly, we have Jang, Sen. Joshua Dariye for Plateau Central and Gen. Jeremiah Useni for Plateau South.

“I am sure such a representation of three very experienced, well established personalities would definitely attract and bring back what is meant for Plateau”, he said. (NAN)
