The identity of the young man who allegedly posed as Asamoah Gyan in a bid
to defraud a US-based Ghanaian on facebook has been revealed.
Massud Walid Iddrissu is currently in custody of the Accra Regional Police for using a fake Facebook account of Asamoah Gyan to fraudulently acquire money from unsuspecting persons.
The 21-year-old was arrested by Lance Corporal Tijani Adam within the premises of a bank where he had gone to take delivery of a ‘supposed’ amount of money sent to him by his friend on Facebook.
The Police were alerted of Iddrissu’s attempt following enquires made by the US-based Ghanaian to the Accra office of the Al Ain ace.
The accused, a diploma graduate of Meridian Pre- University, walked into an ambush when he was directed to a bank in Accra to retrieve GH¢20,000 supposedly sent by his Facebook friend.
The Tema-based accused is currently in custody of the Accra Regional Police and is being processed for prosecution.
