Atletico Madrid will get the chance to avenge their loss to city rivals, Real Madrid in last year’s final after the two Spanish capital rivals were drawn to face each other in the quarter finals.
Atletico came within seconds of lifting the UEFA Champions League in Lisbon but were pegged back by Real in added time before eventually succumbing 1-4 after extra time as Real Madrid lifted their 10th European cup.
Now they can their revenge straight away in the two-legged quarter final with the first leg scheduled for the Vicente Calderon on 14/15 April with the return encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu a week later, 21/22 April.
Elsewhere, PSG get the chance to also avenge their group stage defeat to FC Barcelona as the pair clash again in the quarter finals. PSG host the first leg with the second leg at Camp Nou a week later.
Favourites, Bayern Munich are the only team almost assured of qualification for the semi finals after the German champions drew Portuguese giants, FC Porto with the decisive second leg at the Allianz Arena on April 21 or 22 following a first leg in Portugal.
Italian giants, Juventus’ chase of a first European title since 1996 continues against Monaco in the quarter finals, Juventus will host the first leg in Turin before facing the French club in the decider in Monaco a week later.
