Jail Breakers Pictures Out

The police have started circulating pictures of the suspected ceil breakers in the Denu Police cell break incident. The Regional Police Command has also announced a GHยข1,000 reward for anyone who volunteers information leading to the arrest of the seven criminals who escaped from the Denu Police cells last Friday dawn.

The escapees are Stanley Wada, alias Kadee, 30; Linus Ashietey, 31; Kwaku Azasu, alias Voyo, 24; and two Nigerians, Albert Obina, 21 and Tobe Chukwu Asadu, 20.

The rest who are said to be involved in minor crimes are Edem Gomala, 25, and George Dabla aka Black Jesus, 24.

The criminals are alleged to have managed to overpower the two policemen on duty and escaped with two AK 47 assault rifles and some rounds of cartridges from the police armoury. Six other suspects who were part of the pack were, however, overpowered by the police and are still in cells. None of the police officers sustained injuries.

News of the incident sparked commotion as infuriated residents blocked the main Aflao-Accra highway with burning tyres and other objects. The residents took that action to register their displeasure at the incident, as they feared reprisal attacks from the criminals since some residents played key roles in the arrest of the criminals.

However, calm was later restored and the roads were cleared. Barriers and other checkpoints were mounted in an attempt to re-arrest the criminals, but none has been arrested so far. There are rumours they may have crossed into neighbouring Togo.

The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Peterkin Yentumi Gyinae, assured the public that they were collaborating with their Togolese counterparts to smoke out the criminals.

He urged the residents and all Ghanaians who have information about the whereabouts of the criminals to contact the police promptly in order for them to be re-arrested.

DCOP Gyinae announced that the two police officers who were on duty at the time the criminals escaped have been given a 10-day ultimatum to re-arrest the seven suspected criminals according to police standing regulations.

He said that after the ultimatum, the two would undergo service inquiry after which the necessary sanctions or otherwise would be meted out to them.

He concluded that no one would be spared if found culpable.
