Go for DNA test – Sekou Nkrumah to newly discovered ‘son’ of Kwame Nkrumah

Son of Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah has asked Dr. Onsy Nathan Kwame Nkrumah to subject himself to a DNA test to prove he is really an offspring of the former president.

His reaction comes in the wake of a report in the Daily Graphic of Monday, March 16, 2015, headlined, “IMF loan, reforms won’t take Ghana anywhere – Onsy Nkrumah.” In that story, Onsy Nkrumah was described as the son of President Nkrumah.

The identity of the man who describes himself as a true son of Kwame Nkrumah has generated a storm of controversy, with Dr Sekou Nkrumah wondering “if anybody could simply go to South Africa and claim to be the son of Nelson Mandela without any form of proof.”

Interestingly, the extended family of the late President of the First Republic has accepted Dr Onsy’s claim as the biological son of the former Head of State, and have even decided to give him a native Nzema name at a ceremony at Nkroful very soon.

The Head of the Nvavile Family, Adwobia Kpanyinli, explains that, “it is only Madam Isis Nashid from Egypt who could best tell the real father of her son.”

He is also reported to have showered praises on the “newly discovered son of Dr Nkrumah” for renovating the family house.

Adwobia Kpanyinli further stated that the smock, stick and handkerchief handed to Dr Onsy Nkrumah at a ceremony in Accra signified his acceptance into the family and appreciation for what he had done within the short period he introduced himself as the son of Ghana’s first president.

But speaking in an interview on Okay FM’s morning show Thursday, Dr Sekou Nkrumah said it is ridiculous for someone to suddenly appear and claim the Nkrumah parentage without adequate proof.

“I have met him (Dr Onsy) before but what I told him is that he should subject himself to a DNA test. Just to claim to be a biological son of my father is unacceptable. Besides he is a white person and Dr. Kwame Nkrumah is a black man and so how can that be possible?” he wondered.

“He has no right to claim to be Dr. Nkrumah’s son. He is dragging Nkrumah’s name in the mud which is not right. I therefore urge the state to force him to do a DNA test and when it happens that what he is saying is true, we can then accept it.”
