Eight ex-workers of Anglo Gold Ashanti, Ghana, have filed a suit at a Kumasi High court against their former employer for failing to pay their retrenchment packages.

The aggrieved workers are praying the court to compel the company to settle all unpaid retrenchment packages immediately.

The workers say their living conditions have been poor due to the failure of Anglo Gold to fulfill its obligation.

AngloGold in December, last year laid off over 4,000 of its workers as part of cost-saving measures.

The move, according to the gold mining firm was part of measures being undertaken to make the Obuasi mine profitable.
