Afriyie Acquah may be kicking himself in the foot at the minute as he awaits tonight’s Serie A clash between AS Roma and his side, Sampdoria.
Hard tackling Acquah is suspended for accumulated yellow cards and will sit out the match day 27 tie at the Olympic Stadium in Rome.
It’s a big miss for the Ghana international who reportedly is on the radar of Roma whose coach, Rudi Garcia is along time admirer of the former Palermo, Parma and Hoffeinheim prodigy.
Acquah had started all four Sampdoria games since joining the club on loan after the Africa Cup of Nations and has underlined his billing as one of the toughest midfielders in the Italian top flight.
The 22 year old received his second yellow card in Sampdoria colours in their 2-0 victory over Cagliari in the last Serie A game on March 7, his 9th caution of the 2013/14 season, a span that also included a sending off back when he was with Parma in the first half of the campaign.
Now he will miss the opportunity to impress his admirers with the whole world watching as Sampdoria chase a third straight victory against a Roma side which’s own title challenge is now virtually over after falling a massive 14 points behind 3-time defending champions, Juventus atop the Serie A standings.
Sampdoria meanwhile are also chasing qualification for European football next term and currently sit in 6th spot on 42 points, same as Fiorentina who sit in the 5th and Italy’s last UEFA Europa League qualifying spot on superior goals difference.
Fiorentina host AC MIlan on Monday night, two hours before Sampdoria and Roma kickoff at the Stadio Olimpico in the Italian capital.
Acquah meanwhile has tweeted his joy at working with his new teammates at Sampdoria and wishing them well in tonight’s game.
Our @sampdoria family. It’s fantastic working with these guys. http://t.co/hJcUIhV8O6 — Afriyie Acquah (@AcquahAfriyie20) 2013-07-22 14:22:09.0
