Judges swing into action after watching Joy News’ documentary ‘Locked and Forgotten’

The Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood has begun showing Joy News’ documentary “Locked and forgotten” to all judges and magistrates across the country.

She has so far watched with those in the Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions.

The Chief Justice wants the judges and magistrates to see the inhumane conditions under which prisoners, especially those on remand live as shown in the documentary.

After watching the documentary, Mrs. Georgina Wood then dispatches them to prisons in their various regions to have a feel of the living conditions of inmates there.

Chairman of the Justice for All Program, Justice Clemence Honyenuga said this is a crusade the Chief Justice has begun.

“The documentary was shown to the judges and magistrates in the Ashanti region through a teleconference after the Chief Justice addressed them, they all watched it. We got their comments and we are very happy about it. As a result, the visit will be replicated in all the regions of Ghana,” he said.

He added that, “The supervising High Court Judges in charge of the various regions have been directed by the Chief Judges to lead the crusade and take all the judges and magistrates to various prisons in their regions.”

Justice Clemence Honyenuga wants all remand prisoners across the country to have hope that their cases will soon be dealt with.

“I want to assure that I am a regular ally on the Justice for All Program and anytime we are around, we do our best for them to get them out of prison. We want to assure them that have seen the conditions in which they live in right now and we assure them that we will do our best for them so they should have hope,” Chairman of the Justice for All Program Justice said.

Justice Clemence Honyenuga disclosed that the team will be in Koforidua Prisons next week and then to the Nsawam Prisons in two weeks time.
