Ghanaian Players Abroad: Recap of the weekend’s football games


Jeffrey Schlupp was in action in the English Premier League on Saturday. The Ghanaian played in the full duration of the game between Leicester City and Hull City. Schlupp’s Leicester City side drew 0-0 at home with visitors Hull City who had Tom Huddlestone sent off for a second bookable offence.

Albert Adomah grabbed a goal for his Middlesbrough side in the English Championship in the game against Ipswich Town.

The Ghana international scored the second of four goals for Middlesbrough who eventually won the game by four goals to one.

Adomah received a yellow card booking 12 minutes to the end of regular time.

Eibar’s Derek Boateng made a 77 minute appearance in the Spanish La Liga as his side entertained Barcelona at home.

Boateng replaced Didac Vila in the game that saw his side lose by two goals to nil. Lionel Messi scored both goals for away side Barcelona.

Abdul Baba Raman was in action for Augsburg in the German Bundesliga on Saturday. The Ghanaian and his Augsburg side lost the home game to Mainz 05 by two goals to nil. Abdul Rahman played in the entire duration of the game for his Augsburg side.

Kevin-Prince Boateng also featured for his Schalke 04 side in the Bundesliga, making a substitute appearance in the 2-2 draw away at Hertha Berlin.

In the French Ligue 1 on Saturday, Jordan Ayew scored the winner for his Lorient side in their home game against Caen.

Herve Bazile scored the opener for Caen but Raphael Guerreiro leveled to send Lorient into the half time break 1-1 on goals.

Jordan Ayew completed the comeback for Lorient scoring the winner in the 2-1 victory. The Ghanaian player played the full game for his French club.

Jonathan Mensah also played in the full game for Evian Thonon Gaillard as his French side were handed a 2-1 defeat on the road by Nantes.

The Ghana defender received a yellow card booking in the game.

Richmond Boakye Yiadom missed the chance to play against Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu‘s Udinese when Atalanta entertained them in the Italian Serie A on  Sunday.

Agyemang-Badu however played in the goalless draw as he came on in the 80 minute of the game, receiving a yellow card booking one minute to the end of regular time.

Frank Acheampong was a second half substitute for his Anderlecht side in the Belgium Pro League as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Gent.

Harrison Afful scored the opener for former African champions Esperance in their win over Cosmos  de Bafia in the Confederations Cup.

Former Kotoko star Yahaya Mohammed continued his heroics for Ittihad Tripoli as he scored for the second match running.

In Holland Elvis Manu scored the first goal for Feyenoord as they beat Dordrecht to stay in third place in the Eredivisie.

In Italy Kingsley Boateng scored for bari in the Serie B as he continued too impress on his loan from AC Milan.

Andre Ayew played the full game for Olympique Marseille in the French Ligue 1 as his side drew 0-0 at home to Lyon.
