American MLS side Los Angeles after Ghanaian duo Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari

American MLS side Los Angeles FC officials are reported to have contacted Ghana international Kevin-Prince Boateng about a future move to California, while his compatriot and former AC Milan team-mate Sulley Muntari is also said to be on their radar.

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng is the first potential transfer target for MLS expansion franchise Los Angeles FC, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Named the league’s 22nd franchise in October, LAFC won’t begin their inaugural season until 2017 alongside fellow expansion side Atlanta, but that hasn’t stopped ownership from starting to draw up a list of possible acquisitions.

Schalke’s Boateng is said to be one of the top names on the list and, according to Di Marzio, has even been contacted over the past week to gage his interest in a potential stateside switch in the future.

The Ghanaian’s contract with the Bundesliga outfit expires in the summer of 2016 and he could make a similar move to Brazilian superstar Kaka, who left AC Milan in June to join Florida-based side Orlando City SC, before the club began MLS play this month.

Boateng’s international teammate Sulley Muntari is also understood to be on LAFC’s radar, with his AC Milan deal expiring at the same time as his compatriot’s, but the former Sunderland loanee looks likelier to leave his current club at the end of this season.

Despite struggling for first-team opportunities in recent months, a host of Serie A rivals, including Fiorentina, are claimed to be interested in his signature, throwing a potential spanner into the works.

Boateng himself has endured a disappointing campaign at Schalke, and Bild reported earlier this month that his Italian fianee, who dreams of an acting career in the States, is attempting to make him consider a future move across the Atlantic.

He is not the only ex-Tottenham midfielder with MLS suitors either, with Sporting Kansas City CEO Robb Heinemann confirming last week that the team have held talks with Hamburg captain Rafael van der Vaart.

“If we can get that done, we’d like to get it done,” he told MLSsoccer.com. “He’d be a July move – maybe earlier. I don’t know if Hamburg would let him out early. There’s a lot of things to work out with him.”
