Zambian coach Hector Chilombo says match officials aided Ghana’s progress to the last four of the African Youth Championship (AYC), following his side’s 1-2 defeat to the Black Satellites.
Substitute Samuel Afful struck late to earn
Ghana qualification to the World Youth Championship after the team rallied to
beat Zambia on Thursday.
Chilombo said after the match that “We
are out and very disappointed. Officiating was very bad and disappointing.
Ghana is a good team and could beat us on their own and getting assisted by
officiating is very disappointing and frustrating”.
The Black Satellites had their backs against
the wall two minutes into the match when Dave Daka scored following some poor
defending in the Ghana area to beat goalkeeper Mutawakilu Seidu in post.
The coach said “We played a good team,
Ghana has dominated youth football for long and losing today means going to
work harder for the future.
“Ghana has good players, very strong
side that could go all the way. First games are tricky. After that loss, we
recovered quickly to face Ghana and I am disappointed we lost but the boys
played well.”
The result means Ghana join Nigeria and Mali
as the first three teams to have qualified to represent Africa at the 2015 U-20
World Cup in New Zealand in May.
