M’bour, Mar. 12, GNA – Black Satellites’ captain, Owusu Bempah has said Ghana will aim at winning Group B despite having already qualified to the World Youth Championship (WYC), in New Zealand next May.
Substitute Samuel Afful struck late to earn Ghana qualification to the World Youth Championship after the team rallied to beat Zambia 2-1 on Thursday.
Bempah said after the match that “It is very good for us to have won one more game. But this is not the end. We have to play Mali in our last group game on Sunday.
“We want to win the group and we know that means we must win against Mali to get a 100 per cent record. We will prepare very well to make sure we win to keep us going.”
Speaking about the Zambian challenge, the captain said “We knew from the beginning that the game was going to be difficult. They gave us a lot to worry about because they were very physical.
“Our first objective was to qualify for the World Cup. With that achieved, we now can focus on the cup.”
Ghana are tied on six points with Mali who have also won all two games thus far.
The result means Ghana join Nigeria and Mali as the first three teams to have qualified to represent Africa at the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand in May.
