Prez Mahama’s ‘dead goat syndrome’ comments not a joke – Atik Mohammed

President John Mahama’s “dead goat syndrome” comments should not be seen as a joke, this is according to the People’s National Convention’s Policy Analyst, Atik Mohammed.

He said it was impossible for anyone to say that the comments made by the president were only to release tension and therefore should not be taken seriously.

The hardship individuals and businesses are experiencing currently in the country due to the erratic power supply is not something the president should make joke on, he said.

“In any case what he said is not a joke so why should it be treated as a joke. The president is not known to be a comedian; he was as serious as he can possibly be”, he opined on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’.

Mr Mohammed said the president spoke “out of the abundance of his heart”; therefore it should not be taken lightly.

The president’s comments in his view portray his unpreparedness to solve the many problems he has plunged the country into.

President John Mahama told the Ghanaian community in Botswana – where is on a three-day state visit, that “I have seen more demonstrations and strikes in my first two years. I don’t think it can get worse.”

“It is said that when you kill a goat and you frighten it with a knife, it doesn’t fear the knife because it is dead already. I have a dead goat syndrome”, he added.

His comments were in relation to the numerous strikes and demonstrations which have been staged during his first two years in office. Most of the protests were against poor conditions of services and unstable economy.

But Mr Mohammed said the president is only seeking to divert attention from the current worsening economic and power crisis of the country and pretending that he is not part of the problem.

He also noted that if the president was “responsible”, the number of demonstrations or strikes should not matter to him. His only concern should be how to address the many problems of the country and not create jokes.

The “dead goat syndrome” comment – he believes, indicates that he is unconcerned about the sufferings of the people who gave him the mandate to rule. Story by Ghana | Myjoyonline.com | Naa Sakwaba Akwa | [email protected]
