Accra Great Olympics FC has officially appointed former Ghanaian International, Joachim Yaw Acheampong as new Manager of the Club, a release by the club’s management has said.
“As the Wonder Club opens this new chapter, we are confident that Yaw is the right person to spearhead the technical direction of the Club,” the release said.
It added: “He has a proven ability to create strategic clarity, drive innovation and growth, ensure disciplined and prompt execution, and deliver results. We believe that his passion for excellence will help ensure that Accra Great Olympics continues to climb higher and remain a dominant force in football both in Ghana and Africa.”
Acheampong after putting pen to paper told the media that “Am a team coach, and I believe together with the technical team we will fix the problem confronting the team.
“The team has a lot of quality players. I have set a three-match target, and I believe if we achieve that we will jump from the relegation zone. “I watched them play against Kotoko, and I must say they have quality, I want to thank management for the faith reposed in me,” he added.
Olympics are second from bottom on the league log with nine points after ten games.
“I am honoured to have been asked to take up this challenge, and confident about the prospects that lie in the future of my new family, the Wonder Club- Accra Great Olympics,” Yaw said.
Yaw Acheampong brings a wealth of experience to the Premiership side both as a Player and a Coach. In 2009, he joined Kumasi Asante Kotoko as Assistant Coach.
He was part of Ghana’s Olympic team that won bronze medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. He was also part of Ghana’s 1994 and 1996 squads for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Yaw also played for several local and international Clubs including Obuasi Goldfields, Power FC and King Faisal Babies. Abroad, he played for IFK Norrköping in Sweden, Spain’s Real Sociedad and Hércules CF and Samsunspor and Yimpa? Yozgatspor from Turkey.
Yaw’s appointment is with immediate effect.
