The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye, has given an assurance that the police in the region are on top of issues and are fighting to stamp out criminal activities in the region.
He made the pledge on a morning show programme on Nhyira FM in reaction to questions raised over security in the region.
He said structures were in place to ensure that the region was peaceful for people to go about their duties without fear.
He conceded that there would be robberies “here and there” but said that was not to be interpreted in the wrong way to mean that armed robbery was on the ascendancy in the region.
DCOP Boakye said there was the need for communities to form watch committees as a means of complementing the work of the police.
He said the police was interested in information provided by the people but cautioned that the information given must always be truthful and reliable such that it would help the police in their work.
He urged the media to be circumspect in their reportage since any incorrect information could lead to the creation of tension in society and invariably cause disaffection among the people.
