APC Senators Slams David Mark Over Obanikoro’s Ministerial Confirmation

senate-chamber_anti_terrorism_billAll Progressives Congress Senators on Wednesday condemned the confirmation of Musiliu Obanikoro by the Senate as a minister.

The APC lawmakers held a press conference shortly after they staged a walk when Mr Obanikoro’s confirmation was announced at the floor of the Senate.

The Senate Minority Leader, George Akume, expressed his disappointment at the confirmation, stating that Mr. Obanikoro’s issue was clearly overruled.

“The Senate President has decided to override the members of the senate.

“When a matter is in court, the senate should not deliberated on it.

“If in the past, the Senate refused to confirm some Senators due to different objections, then why is Obanikoro different?

“We want Nigerians to take note that the country is being deceived by the Senate”, he said.

Sen. Magnus Abe, representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, said the confirmation of Mr. Obanikoro was a breach of the Nigerian constitution.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), explained the main reason for their opposition was because they believe Mr. Obanikoro breached his oath of office.

Another Senator representing Ekiti North Senatorial District, Olubunmi Adetumbi, said the confirmation was clearly on partisan basis, which is not in the best interest of Nigerians.
