Yayaaso (E/R), March 11, GNA – Newmont Akyem Project football team defeated Yayaaso by four goals to two on penalties to lift a magnificent trophy, GH¢ 250.00 and a football at the end of a football gala competition organized as part of the independence day celebration in the Birim North District.
The runners up also received a trophy, GH¢ 200.00 and a football.
Mamaso Community football team which came third received GH¢ 100.00 and a football and all the participating teams received a football each.
Newmont Akyem Mining Project organized the inter community football gala competition for 10 communities in its operational area at Yayaaso new site near New Abirem as part of its social responsibility to promote unity among the communities.
The Newmont Akyem Project sponsored the competition with the provision of jerseys, footballs, trophy, soft drinks and meals for the players and officials.
Addressing the players, match officials, chiefs and elders from the community before kick-off on the theme,” Maintaining sustainable relationship with the community through games”, the Acting General Manager of the Newmont Akyem Project, Mr Chris Britts, said the mining company was proudly sponsoring the gala competition because football is the passion of the nation.
He urged the people in the communities in their operation area to cooperate to ensure peace and unity between them and the company to enhance development in the area.
