Outspoken New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, K.T Hammond, is leading a campaign to force top officials at the Electoral Commission (EC) including its Chairman Kwadwo Afari Gyan to resign.

Mr. Hammond says officials of the EC have caused financial loss to the state following the botched District Assembly Elections.

The local polls was earlier slated for March 3, but was cancelled by a Supreme Court ruling.

It has emerged that the EC spent about Ghc317 million in preparations for the elections.

Speaking to Citi FM, a livid KT Hammond called for heads to roll at the EC.

Though he said, “the constitution provides some iron-clad protection for them” he insisted that “they must resign.”

“They think the president can’t touch them so they’ve become thin gods. They leave in Mars,” he stated.

KT Hammond’s campaign follows appeals by pressure group, Movement for Change, who are calling on the government to prosecute Dr Afari Gyan and his deputies for causing financial loss to the state.

They claim negligence on the part of the Electoral Commissioner led to the cancellation of the District Assembly Elections by the Supreme Court.

Members of the group are of the view that the law must guide heads of public institutions and make them accountable to the citizenry.
