Inaki, Inaki: Bilbao defender heaps praise on Inaki Williams

Against Real Madrid last Sunday, chants of ‘Inaki, Inaki’ rang around the new San Mames Stadium after he was substituted.

Inaki Williams, the 20-year-old who became Athletic’s first black player when he made his debut in a home defeat to Cordoba in December last year, has been receiving attention from his own teammate San Jose following a string of fine performances at his club.

Asked about Williams’ performance against Real Madrid, San José was full of praise to the striker.

‘Iñaki Williams? His performances are very good, we knew about his potential but we didn’t expect him to perform so well so soon,” Jose said.

“He has a lot of football to offer. He has a team behind him that helps him.’

The Ghana Football Association have shown interest to snaffle Athletic Bilbao sensation to play for the Black Stars.

Williams, who can also play on the left (as he did against Madrid) or right wing, is also eligible to play for Ghana and Liberia, plus Spain and the Basque Country.

Williams has made seven appearances for Bilabo this season.
