Kpone youth hit streets; threaten to burn Asogli plant

Hundreds of youth in Kpone Katamanso in the Tema Metropolis have been demonstrating over lack of development in the area.

The demonstrators are also threatening to raze down the Asogli power plant in 48 hours if their electricity is not improved.

Leader of the demonstration Samuel Owusu Mensah gave the threat in an interview with Adom FM’s Issabela Ave.

The residents do not understand why Asogli would be generating power from within the metropolis whilst they endure eternal darkness.

They claim there is high unemployment rate in the area despite being surrounded by a number of companies.

The youth, most of whom are unemployed, took to the streets chanting and cursing.

Some of them also accused members of the Kpone Traditional Council of illegally selling the Kpone lands.

They claim portions of the Kpone cemetery had already been sold.

The protestors therefore proceeded to the lands in question and set fire into car tires.

They want their grievances addressed with immediate effect.
